If passes to Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith don't turn into 14 points for the New Orleans Saints. If the Patriots treated midfield as 4-down territory at the end of the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If the Patriots tried to score points before the half against the Dallas Cowboys. Or they didn't punt on 4th down at midfield in both the third quarter and in overtime. Or Jake Bailey's punt wasn't blocked. Or... Basically, the Patriots are a hair away from being considered "really good", but super small differences puts them in the "actually bad" category. And typically, the Patriots could have relied on Bill Belichick to coach the team to play above their weight class, like they did last year.
