In this episode, I introduce the show as In the Mix with Mixel - the name of the show before I changed it to She Creates. This was the very first episode I recorded and I interviewed LA based, DJ Helikonia and DJ Funky Caramelo. They both share stories about their upbringings and how those have shaped who they are becoming today. Helikonia talks to us about how she balances her corporate job in change management while running Intersessions in LA - an organization that sets up workshop series with artist run seminars aimed to address the significant gender and sexuality based imbalance within the music industry. They offer DJ and sound focused workshops for women, and those within the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Funky Caramelo talks to us about how she chose to take a leap and search for a full-time opportunity in the music industry after living a full life as a social justice advocate within immigrant rights. She shares how she feels that she too, has the right to pursue her dream. Both women are full of life, love, optimism, and chingona determination. Listen to Helikonia's music here.
