Workers will soon have access to a made-in-B.C. paid sick leave program that will support workers to stay home when they are sick during the pandemic and afterward, including permanent paid sick leave, as a result of legislation tabled Tuesday, May 11, 2021.On Parliament Hill, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discusses the federal government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. He is joined virtually by Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc, as well as by Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, deputy chief public health officer. The prime minister announces a federal investment of $12 billion for four subway projects in the Greater Toronto Area and a rapid transit project for Hamilton. Trudeau also announces funding to support Nunavut’s response to COVID-19 and confirms ventilators have been shipped to India to help that country in its crisis. He faces questions about the looming shutdown of Enbridge's Line 5 pipeline and about Canada's rollout of COVID-19 vaccines.
