Every time a thick fog fills the streets of Large Neck, a masked ventriloquist and puppet rob a bank at gunpoint. Rock Handy bets the police chief he can solve the case before the cops do. His partner Nix Salmon uncovers a series of curious clues while Rock suspects newly arrived Agricultural Crimes Inspector Chase Perkins and his French-speaking puppet Pierre. But before he can catch the Left Handed Quist in action, Rock gets in hot water with the law.
