This episode was recorded during the pandemic times in New York. We all experienced that harsh reality of a world wide crisis. OG Talk crew decided to create a special segment for that period and we called it "OG Chat, Behind Closed Doors". Today our guest is Rachel Atcheson, a deputy Strategist at Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams Office . Rachel is a good friend, she was a guest on our regular show OG Talk . Ms.Atcheson was and still is an essential part of our segment "News You can Use" where we highlight events, companies, people , books that are pioneering new paths in plant based movement around the world. Rachel shared with us how the office she works for under the leadership of Borough President Mr. Adams actively assists population during the COVID 19 . She acknowledge that research and practical observations of hospital's first responders confirm that some of the comorbidities and complications for patients who have corona virus are diet related. Ms, Atcheson admit they are as busy as ever: office helps to distribute PPE on a ground, arranged PSA with more than 50 plant based doctors to educate about how lifestyle change would help to deal with pandemic. Her office organized collaboration with local vegan restaurants to distribute plant based meals to essential workers at the hospitals. With help of Mealess they have created a weekly live stream for recipe sharing. Mr. Adams is hosting an event himself. She was able to identify the biggest challenges the city faces right now: PPE and its distribution, food and its delivery to senior citizens who are the most vulnerable population right now. But, Rachel and her colleagues dont stop on tackling immediate issues . Deficits and systems inefficiencies and in some cases failures showed what needs to be addressed: nutrition education on a state level . They started to work with Harward clinic on creating a curriculum for doctors that work for NYS. She confirmed that now city administration is open to the conversation about that very subject and awaits for practical assistance. Good job Mr. Adams , personnel of Brooklyn Borough Office and one and only Ms. Atcheson!
