RARE & SCRATCHY ROCK 'N ROLL _114 – "25 U.K. GROUPS THAT ROCKED THE BLUES" This show is a bit of a departure from our usual content, as we present 25 UK groups that rocked the blues. Why the blues? It was one of the cornerstones upon which rock and roll was built. You’ll hear artists like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Animals, Yardbirds, Cream, Kinks, Jethro Tull, and Fleetwood Mac. You know their names. You might not know the blues roots of some of their music. We’ll also present snippets of selected U.S. blues originals by stateside singers whom these U.K. artists emulated, such as Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, John Lee Hooker, and Bo Diddley. We were inspired to create this episode after reading “London Reign Over Me” by Steven Tow. That book relates how England’s capital city built the foundation for what is now called classic rock and explains how American blues was a key building block in this musical metamorphosis. Our resident "Rare & Scratchy Rock 'N Roll" Rockologist Ken Deutsch will interview author Steven Tow about that. And Radio Dave have more the greatest rock and roll stories on record.
