History has enshrined the legacy of civil rights activist Cesar Chavez, and his spirit certainly hovers around the gripping new historical fiction novel “The Road to Delano”, by John DeSimone. The story gives us Jack Duncan, who dreams of playing baseball and in college and putting in his rearview mirror all the political turmoil of Delano, a small agricultural town. As we discover in this gripping story, however, that might not be possible. A professor with an MFA in Creative Writing, John DeSimone is a novelist, and teacher whose recent books include the co-authored “Broken Circle: A Memoir of Escaping Afghanistan” (Little A Publishers), as well as “Courage to Say No” by Dr. Raana Mahmood, about Mahmood’s battle against sexual exploitation as a female physician in Karachi. “Leonardo’s Chair”, his previous novel, came out in 2005. In 2012, he was awarded the prestigious Norman Mailer Fellowship to complete “Road to Delano”. Find out more on Books That Make You. You can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
