Feeding 10 Billion

Miscellaneous

Season 1 of Feeding 10 Billion launched in a banner year for alt-protein. 2019 was the year Beyond Meat had its record-setting IPO, the year Impossible Foods raised $300 million in its Series E and overall, more than 800 million dollars was invested globally in companies making meat, eggs, and dairy from plants, cells and fermented ingredients. It was also the year, when nine out of the top 10 largest U.S. meat companies got involved with plant-based meat and when GFI US successfully used free speech laws to block a Missouri law from restricting what we can call plant-based meat, and dairy. We truly witnessed the spark that fuels the food revolution that we spoke about in Season 1. On the first episode of Season 2, we are talking to someone who was instrumental (essential?) in lighting one of the first sparks, and fueling important scientific conversations, framing essential policy frameworks and guiding tectonic industry shifts that have led us to where we are in the global alt-protein sector. Join hosts Varun Deshpande and Ramya Ramamurthy of the Good Food Institute India as they talk to GFI’s co-founder Bruce Friedrich about why we do what we do, and how food can fix some of the biggest problems of the world.Additional Reading:NOTES:Companies Mentioned:Plant-based food companies:Beyond Meat Impossible FoodsJUSTCultivated meat companies:Memphis MeatsBibliography:Future of Food, Bill GatesBeyond Meat’s Chicken Strips Came First, CNBCCan a burger help solve Climate Change?
