Yet another top-25 showdown took place between rivals on October 8th, 2016 as No. 23 Florida State traveled to Coral Cables to battle with 10th ranked Miami.The Hurricanes jumped out to an early 13-0 lead and led 13-3 at the half. But in the third quarter, south-Florida native Dalvin Cook scampered 59-yards for a score which was followed up by a 20-yard catch and run by Kermit Whitfield to put the 'Noles up 17-13 heading into the 4th quarter.In the final period, Florida State would control a 20-13 advantage as Miami marched down the field behind QB Brad Kaaya finding Stacey Coley to draw the Hurricanes within one with 1:38 remaining and overtime looming. However, defensive lineman DeMarcus Walker rushed through the Miami line on the ensuing extra point to block the try and preserve a one-point, 20-19 Seminole victory.
