A meandering middle chapter in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit Trilogy, Desolation of Smaug features less of the titular dragon than you might think. If you can track it down, the Extended Version fills out some gaps in the story. The subplot with Gandalf faffing about against Nazguls in dreary stone ruins feels like so much padding. An uninspired entry.
