Sibling rivalries are a fact of life – a classic example of selfishness expressed at young ages. But sometimes they last into adulthood, and some of them never heal. The rivalry between Jacob & Esau continued via their descendants for many centuries – it was an ancient grudge. And when Edom pillages and attacks Israel during their destruction, God’s parental wrath is revealed through the prophet Obadiah. In that message, God promises to reverse the pride and arrogance of Edom (and other nations), but also to reverse the destruction of Edom (and other nations). Pride turns to destruction and destruction turns to salvation. And, as always, Jesus is at the centre of it all.
