Today’s conversation is one we need to have, especially given what’s going on in the world and how it is impacting the mental health of virtually everyone. I want to talk to you about therapy – the importance of it, some of the hurdles around it, and the many benefits it can have for us all. This is a topic which is near and dear to my heart since I know first hand how it can impact on our lives, and I want to share that all with you here today.   Basically, this episode is a review of some of the types of therapy that are available out there these days, some of the hurdles you may encounter, some of the benefits that come out of it, and especially the biggest benefit of all for those of us who are parents. COVID-19 has taken a huge toll on both the physical health and mental health of people all around the world. Everyone, absolutely everyone, has been impacted in one way or another. Join me today, and let’s give ourselves permission to examine, understand, and consider pursuing the gifts that therapy can bring to us, and by extension, to those around us as well.   As always, if there is ever a topic you would like me to discuss, a guest you’d like me to interview on the podcast, or feedback you wish to offer, please feel free to contact me at pr@kellytravis.net - I would love to hear from you!   The Finer Details of This Episode:      Some types of therapy that are available   The hurdles involved   Some benefits of therapy   The biggest benefit of all   Quotes:    “I went back to therapy recently. Old stuff was coming up, as it does - stuff that I haven't worked through in past therapy sessions with other therapists.”    “If regular talk therapy doesn't sound good to you, that is not the only option.”   “Looking for a therapist is like dating...it's okay, if you don't think it's a match, then you go back to the drawing board.”   “Ask yourself, ‘What is it costing me to not go?’”   “When it comes to therapy, many people have a very narrow view of what it is.”   “You don't have to wait until you know your whole body is broken and the walls are caving in around you to work with a professional. You can go when the aches start - right when the aches and pains start - not when everything is broken. Or you can go and things are just fine, as maintenance.”   “One of the coolest things about therapy is that it can help bring about change at the brain.”   “Psychological trauma, general dissatisfaction, low level depression, anxiety - all those things contribute, trigger physical symptoms.”   “Not fully processing events and emotions often creates negative thought patterns that can impact every area of your life.”   “Therapy allows you to get to the root of the stuff with time, and then you don't need to self medicate.”   “The best thing for me about having experienced therapy and being in it is that, if you have kids you'll understand, it helps you teach them a better way to work through emotions.”   “I have found that, given the current situations we are experiencing, you know, the post COVID stuff that is happening, people are starting to talk more about personal struggles and mental health issues.”   “It's really valuable, and can do amazing things for your relationships and your outlook and your productivity and your enthusiasm.”   Show Links:   Kelly’s homepage - www.kellytravis.net   Ascend Mastermind - www.kellytravis.net/ascend    Social: @kellythealth   Leadership, Self Worth, and Curiosity with Highly Respected Therapist Roberta Vande Voort   Psychology Today   thriving littles   Natalie Costa - @powerthoughtsnc (on Instagram)
