p.10 TRIAL 10 エクササイズ In her junior high school classroom, Yui Watanabe of Saitama looks like an ordinary thirteen-year-old girl. But outside the classroom, Ms. Watanabe is a rising star on the GP125 road racing circuit. That's right ── this otherwise ordinary junior high school girl is a motorcycle racer. In fact, next year she is planning to compete in the All Japan Road Race Championship, and is hoping to join the European tour in the near future. Ms. Watanabe's successes on the track have not come overnight. She began riding motorcycles on a 40cc bike when she was just five years old, and started racing when she was six. In 2007, at the age of eleven, she began competing in the GP125 class, on bikes with an engine displacement of 125cc or less. She won her first regional championship title in 2008 in Miyagi Prefecture. Ms. Watanabe's hero is the Italian motorcycle champion, Valentino Rossi. She is preparing now to get an international racing license, and hopes to compete in Japan and internationally. She wants to make her debut on the European stage in Germany in 2011. She says she knows she'll have to make a lot of adjustments ── from difficulties with foreign languages to the more competitive style of the European tracks. But, like her hero Rossi, she is determined to win.
