We Wonder: Advent

Religion & Spirituality

Today’s reading is from Paul’s letter to the Romans, chapter 8, verses 4 through 6. I wonder what the Holy Spirit might want to show me about self-control? Do any words or phrases capture my attention, or my heart? 4 Jesus does for us everything the holy law requires. The power of sin should no longer control the way we live. The Holy Spirit should control the way we live. 5 So don’t live under the control of sin. If you do, you will think about what sin wants. Live under the control of the Holy Spirit. If you do, you will think about what the Spirit wants. 6 The thoughts of a person ruled by sin bring death. But the mind ruled by the Spirit brings life and peace. Holy Spirit, you help us to live by your power. You free our hearts, so that we are controlled by your love instead of by sin. Help your fruit to grow in our lives today, so that your love moves out into the world through us. Remind us that we are Jesus’s hands and feet working and walking in our homes, our families, our friendships, and our towns. Thank you for freeing us to love you and one another with our whole hearts. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
