Statement of Need In 2017, overdose fatalities in Kentucky rose by 11% and Jefferson County had the most overdose deaths. It is critical for physicians and providers to be aware of the prevalence of illegal drugs and understand this culture - as legal prescribing guidelines / availability continues to be more restrictive and addicted patients may seek their "high" from illegal sources.   Objectives At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to: Describe the current trends in the emergency department as related to addicts seeking care. List the characteristics of opioid addiction and pill seeking behavior. Discuss non-opioid alternatives for the treatment of acute pain.   Moderator William R.
