True Crime

Hello everyone, in this video I wanted to briefly dive in and talk about a few crucial aspects involving Richard Ramirez that the Netflix Series Nightstalker left out. The video starts out by praising the focus of the documentary which is a different approach to serial killers and their victims. I liked that breaking away from the traditional historiography of True Crime the series focused more on the victims and investigators themselves as the killer becomes more of a background character. I think this is an important step in moving away from the often grossly inaccurate True Crime documentaries that marginalize victims while often mythicizing or glorifying the killers themselves. The video also looks at the brief insight the documentary had into the family and childhood of Richard Ramirez and goes a bit further exploring issues with the parents, his cousin who was a war criminal , the peeping tom Brother in Law who was a Satanist himself and so very much more. The video asks what lead Richard Ramirez to kill? Brings up the old Nature V. Nurture debate while taking a look at the social context of the life of Ramirez who would eventually grow up and become the "entity" that we know today as the Nightstalker.
