Over the past century, black people in America have been at the center of countless innovations. Despite their contributions, their compensation has not been proportionate. In many cases, the lack of credit has been criminal. Today, these same abuses continue. The Question: When will we stop allowing the fruits of our creative genius to be consumed by the culture vultures.The Answer: When we we're ready. The truth is we have had the power all the time. It is easy to get caught up in the ideals upon which this country was founded. Unfortunately, history has taught us that high ideals are not enough to create a fair and just society evidenced by the millions of black people who are living evidence of the greatest crime in human history. "We Can't Have Anything" discusses why ownership of our own culture is critical to closing the wealth gap and why it is so important to fight back against the "culture vultures" that have feasted on the creative genius we as a community have taken for granted. In this edition of leaving the plantation, we will be focusing on the music, sports and cosmetology industries. Lastly, Because it is not enough to simply identify the issue, we will be closing the episode with solutions we can employ immediately to increase our holdings as a people.
