Satan wants us to believe that it’s down to us to earn our own way to God and that our sin might be too great for grace. He loves us to compare ourselves to other believers unfavorably, become discouraged, give up and say “I don’t belong in church, I’m not good enough”. Like many lies, it works because it’s kind of true, but it is not the whole truth. Satan accuses, but God clothes us in righteousness. Were the good old days really all that good anyway, or did we have problems before? The heart of this lie is that we should put our trust in the security of normalcy rather than in God himself. Christians who accept this lie look very much like the non-believers around them.
