Originally a blues singer, Crockett strayed into other American roots music the longer his career lasted, incorporating soul, gospel, and, especially, country. The latter was the focus of Lil G.L.'s Honky Tonk Jubilee, a collection of covers of country classics, but that 2017 album also illustrated how Crockett fused all these sounds into a distinctive, earthy signature.
