After the interview, Mat, Thrasher, and Alex discuss the loads of Simpsons video games they've played over the decade aside from the NES titles.  The Simpsons Arcade Game is a fun take on the beat-em-up genre (Final Fight, Streets of Rage). While the quality of gameplay varies for later titles like Bart's Nightmare or Virtual Bart, most of these games have imaginative levels and fun art (Bart is a pig! Throw tomatoes at Principal Skinner's ass!). Although he directed his first feature in his early 30s with X-15, his motion picture directing career didn't start in earnest until the original The Omen film in 1976. Donner directed hits in a variety of genres from superhero (Superman) and family films (The Goonies) to buddy cop (Lethal Weapon) and horror (The Omen) flicks. He sowed his directing oats doing over a dozen years of directing on classic TV shows like Route 66, Wagon Train, Get Smart, The Twilight Zone, and The Streets of San Francisco. After The Omen smashed box office expectations, Richard Donner's career stuck to big budget studio pictures with some notable intimate character dramas thrown in the mix (Inside Moves, Radio Flyer).   Those wanting to learn more about the career of Richard Donner are urged to read You're The Director, You Figure It Out The Life and Films of Richard Donner by James Christie. Mick Garris, the Master of Horror himself, directs and co-writes Critters 2: The Main Course. Mostly taking place in broad daylight compared to the first film, Critters 2 makes use of its Easter setting for a variety of social and religious satire. Critters (1986)

Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, and Alex Miller discuss the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie. Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) and Cole Young (Lewis Tan) have to travel to Gary, Indiana to set free Kano (Josh Lawson) so they can uncover their true potential.  In the works for a few decades (including once as a direct sequel to Mortal Kombat: Annihilation), this reboot of the Mortal Kombat Cinematic Universe is a prequel to the titular tournament. Compared to the 1990s duology, this is a dull serious affair. Aside from an inspired prologue set in ancient Japan, much of the fighting happens in dark rooms and caves. There's no scope or camp at play here. Lost Films

Starring Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, and Cate Blanchett.  The finale to the stuffed Hobbit trilogy, director Peter Jackson does provide on the epic battle front. Things hurry along a bit too much towards the ending, and the fate of a few characters are ignored outright in the theatrical cut. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

Starring Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ian McKellen, and Cate Blanchett.  A meandering middle chapter in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit Trilogy, Desolation of Smaug features less of the titular dragon than you might think. If you can track it down, the Extended Version fills out some gaps in the story. The subplot with Gandalf faffing about against Nazguls in dreary stone ruins feels like so much padding. An uninspired entry. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey manages to be closest to the book while being the most elegant in popping in Lord of the Rings cameos. Its Extended Cut features more songs and character bits, including a nice young Bilbo sequence inspired by a discussion between Ian McKellen and Peter Jackson. Vegas Vacation (1997)

Starring Linda Hamilton, Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Yet another attempt to launch a new trilogy of Terminator films, Terminator: Dark Fate has series creator James Cameron involved with the screenplay for the first time since T2: Judgment Day. It's too little, too late. Although there's a good cast, the story is not new or bold enough to grab people's attention and the special effects lack a certain weight to them. Aside from a striking opening sequence featuring some of the best de-aging effects to date, this one is worth skipping. Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)

Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, and Alex Miller discuss the 1998 Psycho remake. Norman Bates (Vince Vaughn) runs a motel and kills tenants once in a while.  Controversial at the time for being a remake of a stone cold classic of the horror genre, Gus Van Sant's Psycho is a mostly shot for shot remake with some dreamlike imagery slapped in during certain scenes to make it more surreal. Vince Vaughn isn't able to walk the line between threatening and charming; he just comes off as eccentric. The rest of the cast does what they can walking in the steps of giants, but the whole thing feels like an exercise to be debated in film school. Psycho (1998)

Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, and Alex Miller discuss Psycho IV: The Beginning. Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) calls into a talk radio show about serial killers and tells the host Fran Ambrose (CCH Pounder) all about his twisted childhood. Made for Showtime and directed by horror maven Mick Garris (Critters 2), this is the only Psycho sequel written by Joseph Stefano, the screenwriter of the original. The modern day wraparound plot is a bit weak, but it's nice to see Anthony Perkins playing Norman one last time.
