Catch Up Friday- Goodbye good friends

 Another car crash in our region- Major Crash are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Chedaring Road, Wundowie yesterday afternoon, Retro Reviews with John- 1985 The Breakfast Club was up for discussion this morning, it was my pick for our last chat together :) What a classic and as always John provides some fun facts about the movie you might not know about Eurovision, truly unique, truly bizarre. Have you seen much of it this year? Under the Lino- It's Fred Astaire’s birthday today, the very first celebration of Mother’s Day, Nelson Mandela was made South Africa’s first black President, the 1977 New Mercury Edition had a gem about kids and bikes and the Pet Shop Boys in the music world were at number one. 

Catch Up Thursday- Another Country Road Fatal Crash

 Aunty Fil gives her 2 cents on the outcome of the budget, the proposed winners and losers. 'Hello Grief- Be My Friend' author Robina Haines gave me couple of minutes of her time this morning to share her story and also she let us know that she is coming out to our region next month. Jim has been MIA for a little while but fear not, he is back on board and I was lucky enough to have a bit of a yarn with him this morning about all the latest happenings down at the Merredin Men’s Shed. Willy Regan was on board again this morning to remind us of some great FREE business workshops in the region at the moment. 

Catch Up Wednesday- Aunty Fil's Budget

 The 2018 budget is unveiled tonight and looks like there will be a focus on tax breaks and looking after our elderly with aged care. Speaking of budgets... I couldn't help but share a bit of a tune  Australia's Biggest Morning Tea events will be happening throughout the region very soon and the big one in Northam is set to be pretty great this year with Di Tinetti once again taking the reins, she let us in on what we can expect come May 24th. Barry Urqhart from Marketing Focus gives has a really interesting chat with me this morning about the evolution of service stations and what the future is going to bring with regards to our region within the Central Wheatbelt and Avon Valley.

 Pretty shocking to  find out this morning that nearly one in four Australian women aged between 35 and 59 drink excessively to dangerous levels – far out-drinking Aussie men. Sports with Saratsis- A thorough dissection of the Eagles and Dockers games over the weekend Jason Whiteaker from the Shire of Northam let us in on some more details about this brand new youth precinct coming very soon. Macca’s Avon Footy Association Review from Round 5, as always a bit of banter and slipping in some corker nick names, a new one I hadn't heard of this morning, ' toothpick with the flared end'... 

Catch Up Monday- Shocking stats for drinking and women

 Senior Sergeant from the Merredin Police filled us in on the cases of vandals causing damage in town, both at the Pioneer Cemetery and at the Vietnam War Memorial in Roy Little Park, there is good news in that the culprits have been found. Whilst Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan was in town, the question of funding cuts to CRCs couldn't be avoided and she has said cuts need to be made to cater for “really, really important” investments.  Avon Footy Association preview for Round 5 with Macca this morning, a big congratulations and good luck to Brad Jones going in to play his 250th game this week. World According to Quinny- More great sporting news about representatives from our region, an orchestral band from the Wheatbelt has just returned from the concrete jungle of NY and the Northam Women in Business have a wonderful opportunity available at the moment. 

Catch Up Friday- Merredin Police find out vandals

 John's Retro Review- Born on this date, May 3rd back in 1933 was none other than the godfather of soul, James Brown. James of course, was part of a huge cast in the incredibly entertaining film 'The Blues Brothers'. The Commonwealth Bank confirmed this morning the loss of the historical financial statements of almost 20 million accounts, but insists its customers' information has not been compromised... Willy Regan from RSM Business Local let us know about some great FREE workshops she is hosting coming up in York and Mukinbudin. Under the Lino- Local newlyweds have a bit of an issue with a pig, the first ever spam email is sent and the Bay City Rollers album hit the charts.

 Our WA Government has announced plans to cut $5 million in funding from our CRCs which will likely see operating hours cut and opportunities for trainees restricted. Aunty Fil gives her 2 cents this morning. Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre in our Avon Valley, Northam, has recorded the highest number of escape attempts in Australia... I think I might hold the record of most voicemails collected, the call is out there for anyone who's beaten my record. Under the Lino this morning- local history gem regarding the post office an, the discovery of Freo and 9-5 hits the charts. 

Catch Up Wednesday- CRC funding cuts will hit us hard

  A world first trial at UWA is investigating if cannabis can help people suffering from chronic insomnia sleep. Merredin SongFest will be here before we know it and so the Choir Master, Langley Smith, of our local group ‘Achoired Taste’ t is celebrating 10 years this year and came in to give us all the details for what will be a magical, musical weekend. Mr Barry Urqhart from Marketing Focus had a chat with me this morning about effective advertising with a simple message and how our local businesses can do/implement that in the Central Wheatbelt and Avon Valley. Around the Towns- for the Shire of Toodyay, Merredith fills us in on tonight’s local candidate information session for the election in June and also this weekend, get your costume ready because the Moondyne Festival is coming! 

Catch Up Tuesday- Cannabis the possible cure for a solid 40 winks

 *This week National Road Safety Week and this morning it’s unfortunate to report that we’ve had yet another fatal crash on our country roads. In Wongan Hills on Friday night the life was lost of a young man in his 20s. Macca fills us in with a big review of the football and netball in the Avon over the weekend, big blow outs on the scoreboard this week with a lot of the matches. Davo’s Joke of the Day- a corker/life lesson in here, get those wifi passwords happening folks.   The big derby clash yesterday deserves some analysis and who better to rope on the Saratsis. We dissect the game and look forward to the standing in the games to come in the AFL. 

Catch Up Monday- National Road Safety Week

*A trip to the movies is a highlight of the school holidays for many kids, but a cinema full of families had a shock when a trailer for a horror movie came on when they were least expecting it at a screening of Peter Rabbit, Aunty Fil gives her 2 cents. *I have a check in with Mia Davies who lets us in on her Anzac day and the local services she attended, she also gave us an update on how the fight for our Community Resource Centers are continuing and what we can do to help. * Eliza Wynn from the Avon Valley and Wheatbelt Advocate talked to us about the Clackline Post Office opening happening thanks to the Shire of Northam funding, more on council making a decision for a free RV and camping site in town and she had her very first viewing experience of a Northam Derby from the weekend just been.

Catch Up Friday- Peter Rabbit, A Horror Story

*Great news! Treasurer Scott Morrison could have more tax cuts in his Budget after he announced dropped plans for the Medicare levy increase. *Hellie Turner afforded me some time this morning, play write of The Lighthouse Girl that is on a regional tour at the moment and coming to the Merredin Cummins theatre on Friday night. *The World According to Quinny- What Quinny got up to for Anzac Day, he also let us know about another mural being constructed by local artist Pat Rose in Northam at the moment and it’s a very special day on the Friday for butchers! *John’s Retro Review- You’re Mine & Ours Sadly, we lost the queen of comedy Lucille Ball on April 26, 1989. John thinks a lot of people missed out on her which is a shame as she was truly gifted at her craft. So, this week we rewind back to 1968 to a wonderful film.

  There's been a decision made not to award the Ross Glendinning Medal in this Sunday’s western derby at Optus Stadium — a call that had West Coast and the Dockers at odds last night, apparently it's because of a change in the sponsorship agreement with Carlton & United Breweries. ANZAC Day tomorrow and in light of that I roped Rob Endersby in to have a chat about how the parade will go with the dawn service being held in Merredin. Barry Urqhart from Marketing Focus had a chat with me this morning about customer satisfaction it's importance for small local businesses. Around the Towns- For the Shire of Mt Marshall, Olivia Granich gave us the details of what is coming up over the next couple of weeks :)  

Catch Up Tuesday- Ross Glendinning Medal not to be for 2018

 There is a family in Mundijong with three young children, and two of their children have been diagnosed with MLD “Meta-chromatic Leuko-dystrophy”, an inherited genetic disease with no cure, only treatment to extend life and slow down the disease.  There’s a 1 in 40,000 chance of having the gene, with 1 in 4 chance of passing it to your children. Skwid had a chat with me this morning from Guardians of Innocence Perth and they are hosting a ride this weekend that is going through our Avon region to raise funds for this family in need. Macca’s Review of the Avon Footy Association games and also the Netball as well :) Always good hear how the games faired with Railways ending up coming out with the goods from the big Derby in Northam over the weekend James West lets us in on some great work he is doing with the PCYC and how the holiday activities are going for the kids as well as a quick chat about the upcoming ANZAC Day dawn service being held in Northam Sports with Saratsis- AFL only this morning, lot's  to discuss with our WA sides showing some footy magic over the weekend and a look into the Anzac Day clash and upcoming Western Derby! 

Catch Up Monday-Guardians Charity Ride is coming!

 Major Crime Squad detectives have located the body of a man, believed to be Dean Patrick White, in a camp area north of my home town Quairading. Macca gives us a preview into Round 3 of the Avon Footy Association games! Including the big derby in Northam on Sunday Wendy in Wyalkatchem just received a doggo called Winston, not only is he super cute but he's a special dog, he's going to help her vision impairment. Bella Pearson from Lions Hearing Dogs Australia has a chat with me about it all  Eliza Wynn from the Avon Valley & Wheatbelt Advocate gives us all the details on the big stories in the paper this week including the vote for a free camping spot in Northam
