YULETIDE MONSTERS
Horror authors T. Fox Dunham & Phil Thomas are back after their Halloween adventures to celebrate the holiday season with a new episode of What Are You Afraid Of? Horror & Paranormal Show. Author John C. Foster joins them, continuing their holiday tradition, and he comes bearing gifts: a creepy Christmas story, Yule Wine, narrated by Linda Jones. A cranky old lady pushes the owner of a Christmas tree farm in this tale of holiday homicide.
And of course we have a ghost story. English folksinger David Walton narrates a creepy tale that happened to Phil & Fox while recording their Halloween at the Beach special in Cape May, New Jersey. The spirits of the Marquis De Lafayette sabotaged the last fifteen minutes of the show!
Fox, Phil & John chat about the dark side of Christmas. In a sanitized version of Christmas, we celebrate a rosy-cheeked cherub who brings gifts to all the children, but Yule was once the time of monsters who punished naughty children. For every Santa Claus, there is a monster like the Krampus who terrifies the naughty. The writers discuss the various incarnations of this holiday punisher archetype such as the French scarecrow monster, Hans Trapp or the fierce troll mother Grýla. Christmas used to be a horrifying time to be a kid!
Fox also chats with a master theater prop-maker and crafter, Professor Jay Duckworth, who sent the show some of his goods: a black leather Krampus stocking, Krampus cookie cutters, salt and herbs. Fox chats with the professor about his wonderful creations!
New holiday carol about the Icelandic Yuletide Cat!
This year, we have a special surprise for our fans. T. Fox Dunham & David Walton got together and wrote a new Christmas carol, which David then beautifully performs. The song is about the Christmas monsters previously mentioned and the darker side of the holiday, featuring the most terrifying holiday creature of them all: the Icelandic monster cat, Jólakötturinn! This feline eats kids who don’t work hard and have no new clothes for Christmas.
Of your Krampus go and sing
Don’t forget Belsnickle too
But wear new clothes on Christmas Day
Or JÓLAKÖTTURINN will devour you
