RoseColored Glasses announces its 2009 Season! Songs for a New World June 25 - 28 Words and Music by Jason Robert Brown Lights come up on a single woman. Another woman and two men soon join her. Their hopes and dreams, fears and failures conjure up images of explorers setting out to find new lands. The Americas of yesterday, today and tomorrow join hands across time and together discover SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD. Says the author of this gripping revue, “it’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.” Jason Robert Brown transports you from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge 57 stories above Fifth Avenue to meet a startling array of characters ranging from a young man who has determined that basket-ball is his ticket out of the ghetto to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man of her dreams and a soulless marriage. These are the stories and characters of today, the songs for a new world. Edgar’s Ghost October 7 - 11 Written by Jim Liddle Not much is known about the death of Edgar Allen Poe. One of the greatest literary minds was found in a stupor on the side of the road in Baltimore. EDGAR’S GHOST imagines that in those final moments, while he lay dying in the hospital, he is visited by his creations. The Raven. The Tell-Tale Heart. The Black Cat. Hop-Frog. And we certainly can’t forget Virginia, his lovely cousin-bride. Was she the fabled Lenore? Or was Lenore another woman? QUILT: A Musical Celebration December 1 - 6 Music by Michael Stockler, Lyrics by Jim Morgan Few who have seen the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt can ever forget the experience or the powerful emotions evoked by this patchwork of panels celebrating the memory of a friend or family member who has died of this terrible scourge. This series of stories for, from and about the Quilt is threaded together by a volunteer's experience while making a panel in memory of a friend. In monologues and songs that bring the audience through the full range of emotions, QUILT, A MUSICAL CELEBRATION commemorates the victims and survivors of this disease and the ones left behind.
