Eddie Gallen from Belfast but living in Madrid did his first Marathon in Dublin back in 1982. He followed that with a few more Marathons before taking on his first Ultra Marathon in 1995. This was a 100Km race in Madrid. In 1998 he discovered the time based 24hr race and in 2007 he made his International Debut when representing Ireland in the IAU 24-hr European Championships in Madrid. Since then Eddie has gone on to represent Ireland in 8 European & 9 World Championships with the highlight being his Captaincy of Team Ireland when the World Championships were held in his native Belfast.
