Matty kicks this wild ride off with a big ‘Ol FLUB that turned out to be an inadvertent (but worthy!) endorsement of The Cult of Domesticity (pod) whilst attempting to plug Kelly’s pod A Non-Mom Happy Hour! Then we get down to business, (2:05) Kelly takes us through her last 3 years which revolved around numerous spinal surgeries and therapeutic recoveries. If anyone out there has spinal issues or past physical trauma(s) that may have contributed to current ailments, this is an account to dive into or share with others, might help…(9:35) Kelly and Matt dig into some of the numerous causal factors that triggered the onset of her conditions, including the possible existence of her tail! (15:20) Gaslighting of Women in Medical Encounters: Kelly is soon to publish a follow up to her autobiographical memoir Skin in the Game; the stories my tattoos tell, all about the medicalized Gaslighting of Women within Medical Encounters. Kelly provides us with an account that was eerily similar to the one I heard on Heather’s episode of Wine Women and Revolution, right down to the impact of finding an African American Female Neurologist (seriously) who “Finally Believed Her”. Once Kelly publicized her account on her pod and blog, I imagine, she was flooded with responses from other women with similar narratives, so much so that it lead to the writing (ongoing) of her second book all about this crucial and only recently discussed patriarchical and racialized bias in Medicine. (41:25) After a few hilarious “Bev” stories and further accounts of Kelly’s savagery, we get into some of the wider themes of her next book, including the intersectionalization of medicalized embodied bias through clinical praxis! You will have to listen to learn what I mean by that overly complex psudo-academic phrase. (45:25) Followed by a sudden and refreshing further Left-Hand Turn, Kelly regales us with tails of American Imperialism in El Salvador!
