How to Be a Sick Kid

Society & Culture

This week marks our first episode with a fellow YA cancer survivor, Sean Green. The man of many comedic hats -- stand-up, writing, podcast host of Sports Gambling Podcast and Sean’s Sports Show -- is in his mid-30s and has already had cancer twice. He was diagnosed with melanoma at 18 but he says his real battle came at 29 when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. With two comedians talking about cancer, there’s more laughter than you might expect, but we also get serious about what it’s like to tell your parents you have cancer, going through treatment with no health insurance, how a DUI and a cancer diagnosis were his combined wake-up calls, and finding other young adult survivors to lean on -- all while people consistently tell you about “this one person they knew who had cancer that you should meet.” Sean’s real passion is sports, though, so we also chat about his podcasts as well as how the heck he got married last year during football season (exactly one year ago, actually -- happy anniversary, Sean and Tess!).You can find out more about Sean here and on Twitter and Instagram.Keep in touch with How to Be a Sick Kid:InstagramTwitterFacebookEmail: howtobeasickkid@gmail.comFor more information on testicular cancer, please visit the Testicular Cancer Foundation.
