Business Over Beer

Business

In this very special episode of the Business Over Beer podcast, originally broadcast LIVE on facebook on October 22, The Gangsta of Hazel Dell brings a couple members of his posse, Bart Hansen, Vancouver, WA City Councilman and James Oneill, Business Development & Outreach Representative with Columbia Credit Union, to discuss local politics and the state of local business. During one of the most crucial elections of our time, with record high voter turnouts driven largely by the Presidential Election, there is unprecedented polarization and tribalism created by our national political identities. Now is the time for a renewed focus on local politics, getting involved in our local community and the issues that impact our everyday lives.     In this Episode: Don't be intimidated by those working in government, they are here to help put citizens in touch with the resources they need. Don't be afraid to reach out.  Local government impacts your everyday life far more than national government.   The council needs to communicate better with the citizens; they can't rely solely on people coming to the council meetings as the means of communicating with the public, so council needs to be out in the community more. Homelessness and Affordable housing are two of the top issues facing Vancouver according to the 2020 survey. There is high satisfaction with public safety in the city. Communication needs to improve between the city and it's citizens, which means not only asking the right questions, but also, actually listening to what folks have to say and formulating committees that have the best representation for the different neighborhood groups. Tribalism has taken over our national politics and national mindset, but when you look your local small communities, there are so many great and positive things happening, people are supporting each other inside the community.     Guest Beer: Heathen Brewing - Vancouver, WA Root Beer of the Gods, Non-Alcoholic   Victor 23 Brewing - Vancouver, WA Low Visibility, Hazy IPA, 6.8% ABV, 20 IBU "Juicy aromas of strawberries, papaya, pineapple, and citrus"     Angie's Mystery Beer: Leinenkugel Brewing Co. - Chippewa Falls, WI Harvest Patch Shandy, Pumpkin Weiss, 4.2% ABV, 11 IBU "Satisfy your thirst for autumn with our Leinenkugel’s® Harvest Patch® Shandy.
