This week on Business Over Beer, the second biggest podcast in the Pacific Northwest behind only The Sasquatch Hunters, it's part 2 of our interview with Freelance Travel Writer, Matt Wastradowski. In this episode, Matt tells us about a few more of his favorite hikes from his book, Moon Pacific Northwest Hiking. Also, we compare Matt the freelance writer to Matt the small business owner, and how the journey he went on, both metaphorical and literal, is the same journey that most small business owners go on. And, we ask Matt if he's ever encountered Sasquatch, you'll have to listen to find out if he has. Prost! In this episode: Hiking all alone by oneself, as Matt did for much of this book, is a metaphor for what it's like to be an entrepreneur; Some days you feel like you might die, while other days you feel total freedom and empowerment and are surrounded by the most beautiful views in the world. Much like writing a travel guide, as an entrepreneur and a small business owner, there will always be moments of "What have I done?" When he started freelancing he thought he would be working less, but turned out he was working so much more. Writing this book was of course hard and draining, but it pales in comparison to those moments of genuine transcendence, excitement and gratitude that he gets to do what he loves. Matt was not always a big hiker, as a kid he quit the boy scouts because it was too outdoorsy. It's not just about writing a book, but also about trying to inspire that a passion in others to do something may might think is not possible. After college, he tried several jobs and realized that he was looking for something he was never going to find in a 9-5 job. Writing this book was a fun game of discovery and being able to share that with others to inspire a passion for this region.
