Education

Last month, students from years 3,5,7 and 9 sat their NAPLAN tests. Since they were first introduced in 2008, there has been a great deal of controversy in the educational community as to whether these tests are appropriate, whether they have affected teaching negatively or positively, and whether the results of the test are being used for appropriate purposes.  Despite the controversial nature of the test, parents now have a way to see how their child has been performing in comparison to other students in the same cohort. This is the same cohort of students who your child will be competing against in future scholarship exams, selective schools examinations and ultimately the VCE exams. Prior to NAPLAN, parents would have no idea how their child may be performing compared to other students around the state. So, why is this important? And what does your child's NAPLAN score mean for you? Listen to this episode to find out!
