I did two interviews about the Quarantine Backyard Ultra and I did them almost back-to-back. This event and the people who created it and all the participants inspired me, personally. Matt Shepard is a coach with Personal Peak - the company that created the Quarantine Backyard Ultra. He shares his unique story of running the event. Matt's story starts with getting from where he was in Alaska to where he would run the Backyard Ultra and ride out the shelter-at-home instructions in Valley View, Canada. For his personal race he also battled the weather and ended up setting up a unique course in a coffee shop. Yes, inside a coffee shop to run his "yards." We talk about what his race and the experience. We talk about how this unique race brought together a professional/elite field that you might never find any other time or place. We also talk about what motivates people to get out and do something like this and also the reality of pushback online from folks who may not understand it. The Quarantine Backyard Ultra was an inspiring event. Matt's story is inspiring and motivating. Enjoy. You can find Personal Peak at www.personalpeak.ca Seriously --> give those guys and gals at Personal Peak some love because they put this whole thing together in 2 weeks and that deserves some serious praise. The award was a golden toilet paper roll ... how fun is that?!? You can find Matt Shepard on Instagram @go_shep You can find full notes and the text of the interview at www.mileaftermilepodcast.
