This week on the show, I'm joined by a former Canadian National Team Snowboarder. content creator & speaker, and founder of 93Agency where she helps people build their brand through social media, Natalie Allport. Natalie grew up playing sports from a young age. she did everything that you could think of, soccer, hockey, basketball, softball and she excelled in all of them. But at the age of 12, she discovered snowboard. while she said she wasn't good at it she stuck without and that would impact her life for the years to come. At 13 she entered her first local snowboarding contest and won. in 2010 she began competing at events beyond the local level, she took online courses during the summertime, worked full time and graduated high school a semester early because of her dedication to her online schooling during the summertime. needless to say, she dedicated her life to snowboarding for the sole purpose of one thing, and that was to make the 2014 Olympic team. The summer leading up to the 2014 Olympic campaign, did not go she expected. she faced a bunch of injuries such as breaking her tailbone, ribs, ankle, wrist and heels and when the games were on, she was on the couch in a shoulder sling, watching and cheering her teammates on. 2015 Natalie made a hard decision and decided to step away from the sport. the toll of building herself up mentally and physically took a toll on her mental health which led to ongoing anxiety attacks and moments where depression took over her state of mind. Throughout this episode, you will hear Natalie touch on the highs and lows that she faced during her time in the sport and her transition out of It and the toll it took on her. It's because of her low moments that she became an advocate for mental health and sharing her story to remind people that they are not alone in the day-to-day battles.
