P: Be at peace among yourselves. C: The grace of Jesus Christ is with us. P: Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances. C: The grace of Jesus Christ is with us. HYMN: Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God W&P 35 Create in me a clean heart, O God, that I may serve you; Create in me a clean heart, O God, that I might be renewed. So fill me and heal me and bring me back to you. Create in me a clean heart, O God, that I might serve you. PRAYER OF THE DAY The Lord be with you, And also with you. Let us pray: Ever-present God, help us to live your will. You are the God of peace and joy. Fill us with the Holy Spirit that we may help others, rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in every circumstance. In Jesus' name. Amen SCRIPTURE 1 Thessalonians 5: 11-28 Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing. But we appeal to you, brothers and sisters, to respect those who labor among you, and have charge of you in the Lord and admonish you; esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, beloved, to admonish the idlers, encourage the faint-hearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them. See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise the words of prophets, but test everything; hold fast to what is good; abstain from every form of evil. May the God of peace himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do this. Beloved, pray for us. Greet all the brothers and sisters with a holy kiss. I solemnly command you by the Lord that this letter be read to all of them. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Word of God, Word of Life. GOSPEL Mark 5:19-20 But Jesus said to him, 'Go home to your friends, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and what mercy he has shown you.' And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed. Word of God, Word of Life. MESSAGE HYMN: Be Thou My Vision ELW 793 v 1,3,4 1. Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art; thou my best thought both by day and by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light. 2. Riches I heed not, nor vain empty praise, thou mine inheritance, now and always: thou and thou only, the first in my heart, great God of heaven, my treasure thou art. 3. Light of my soul, after victory won, may I reach heaven's joys, O heaven's Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Called into unity with one another and the whole creation, let us pray for our shared world. You take resources that appear to be meager, bless them, and there is enough. May your church trust that what you bless and ask us to share with the world is abundantly sufficient. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Your bountiful creation offers sustenance and life for all creatures. Protect this abundance for the well-being of all. Reverse the damage we have caused your creation. Replenish ground water supplies, that the water of life runs abundant everywhere. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. You offer yourself to all nations and peoples, inviting everyone to abundant life. Bring the prophetic vision to fullness, that all will run to you to receive your goodness and grace. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. You hear the anguish of tender hearts who cry to you in suffering and satisfy their deepest needs. Bring wholeness and healing to those who suffer in body, heart, soul, and mind, especially those we name now.... Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. You offer freely the fullness of salvation. Give our congregation such a welcoming heart, that our words and actions may extend your free and abundant hospitality to all whom we encounter. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. You gather your saints as one, united in the body of Jesus. Bring us with all your saints to the heavenly banquet. We remember with love and thanksgiving the saints we have known. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Receive these prayers, O God, and those too deep for words; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. LORD'S PRAYER Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen COMMUNION WITH OUR COMMUNITY HYMN: Now Thank We All Our God ELW 840 1. Now thank we all our God with hearts and hands and voices, who wondrous things has done, in whom this world rejoices; who, from our mothers' arms, has blest us on our way with countless gifts of love, and still is ours today. 2. Oh, may this bounteous God through all our life be near us, with ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us, and keep us all in grace, and guide us when perplexed, and free us from all harm in this world and the next. 3. All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given, the Son, and Spirit blest, who reign in highest heaven, the one eternal God, whom earth and heav'n adore; for thus it was, is now, and shall be ever more. BLESSING God, source of all life, God, the Word of love, God the Spirit of truth + bless you all, now and forever. Amen DISMISSAL Go forth into the world to serve God with gladness; be of good courage; hold fast to that which is good; render to no one evil for evil; strengthen the fainthearted; support the weak; help the afflicted; honor all people; love and serve God, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.
