Barca Breakdown (FC Barcelona)

Miscellaneous

The Barca Breakdown discusses Barca’s first Champions League game against Bayern Munich at the Camp Nou. Without Fati, Dembele or Aguero, our attack was depleted and all Barca fans knew that this Bayern team were better with Lewandowski and Co. Yusef’s skepticism predicted a 5-1 loss, while Adam’s false hope predicted a 3-2 loss. Despite the ill faith, Barca failed to put one in the back of the net at home and allowed 3 goals. Barca’s first quarter performance was impressive, with good ball movement, possession, and open space. This all changed when Muller scored off a deflection of Eric Garcia, leaving Ter Stegen helpless. The rest of the game is slowly turned downwards as Koeman's Barca seemed to have little tactical planning to deal with Bayern in an effective way. This comes from a failure of slowness and a lack of creativity from Roberto and Luuk De Jong. While the score line was not flattering, some stand out performances from Ter Stegen, Araujo, and Frenkie De Jong were only visible on the pitch. Along those lines, Coutinho appeared in his first game back after a long injury and loan to show he was still capable of taking chances. It was nice to see some youngsters (Gavi, Demir, Balde) and get some play time for the future of Barca. Ultimately, we question what could have happened if we had a healthy squad with the likes of Dembele, Fati, Depay (and Aguero) in the front. Even if we had these star players to bolster our attacking potential, would Koeman have been tactical enough to utilize these players to their full potential in the barca style? This is a question we can track as the season continues and our squad reaches a healthier status. Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel!
