Thoughts from Maharrey Head

Miscellaneous

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was arrested by London police and will likely be extradited to the U.S. to face charges in connection with secret documents obtained by Chelsea Manning and published on the WikiLeaks website. These documents revealed government malfeasance. Nevertheless, people on both side of the political spectrum are cheering Assange's arrest, despite the grave threat his prosecution poses to free and open journalism. Most of these cheerleaders won't directly address the information these documents revealed or the service Manning and Assange provided by revealing government criminality. Instead, they justify Assange's prosecution with the refrain, "But he broke the law." In this episode of Thoughts from Maharrey Head, I take on this spurious argument and reveal it for the tripe that it is. When you're finished listening, you'll be 10 minutes closer to freedom!
