The Boston Celtics Friday night got their 1st win over the Brooklyn Nets this season returning to Boston facing an 0-2 defecit looking to avoid and 0-3 defecit to the Brooklyn Nets and now the series is the Nets 2 the Celtics 1 going into Sundays Game 4. The Celtics win 125-119 as Jayson Tatum led the Celtics scoring 50 points outscoring Nets leading score James Harden who had 41. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving combined for 55 points (Durant 39, Irving 16) in what was Irvings 1st game back in Boston with fans allowed inside the TD Garden. While Tristan Thompson, Marcus Smart and Evan Fournier combined for 59 points (17 Fournier, 19 Thompson, 23 Smart). The win featured the Nets coming out and quickly going up 19-4 making Celtics fans think the team was in for a blowout before a timeout called by head coach Brad Stevens allowed the Celtics to get their heads right and Tatum finally took over. So this sets up a huge game Sunday night where if the Celtics win the series is tied and will guarantee a game 6 in the series while a Nets win means they can eliminate the Celtics when the series shifts back to Brooklyn. Meanwhile during game 3 another thing everyone was looking to keep an eye on was the behavior of the Boston Celtics fans and how they would treat Kyrie Irving. As this was the 1st game that the Nets PG would play in Boston with fans in attendance since he opted to break the promise he made to Celtics fans a few years ago when he said he intended to resign with Boston. Of course Kyrie Irving made things more interesting with his comments of fans in Boston being racists and saying he hoped the fans could keep it clean without any racial comments dealt his way. So what about the reaction towards Kyrie did fans pass in their 1st test since his remarks what could happen Sunday night when the TD Garden will be at full capacity.
