The United States heads for close to 10 million cumulative coronavirus cases, with over 9.9 million reported cases as of last night according to Johns Hopkins data. All the numbers are going up; cases, hospitalizations, and daily deaths. Texas alone is inching toward 1 million total cases. Sixteen states reported record high hospitalizations Friday.  In Germany, resistance to “lockdown light.” Officials condemned the actions of 20,000 people who demonstrated against restrictions in a Leipzig city square, most without wearing masks. An investigation has been called for to determine how the protest was able to get out of control.For an example of increasing control, look no further than Greece. That country is not only under a nationwide lockdown, those who live there must text authorities if they want to leave their homes for any reason. They must provide their name, address and why they need to go out. Students attending any of New York’s public universities in the spring will be required to quarantine at home for a week first and be tested for COVID-19, either at home or on campus. Classes will start later than usual, Feb. 1, and spring break has been eliminated. Graduation plans even for the Class of 2021 are anticipating having to be virtual.Vermont has regularly been near the top of the list of states with the highest virus retransmission rates, but ski season is coming, and the slopes will be open. For Vermont, it’s a $1.6 billion business. There are restrictions, which potential visitors are already complaining about. But from Sept. 1 through Nov. 4, the number of confirmed cases in the state has risen more than 38%. The top 10 counties with the highest number of recent cases per capita according to The New York Times: Childress, TX. Norton, KS. Jones, IA. Eddy, ND. Calhoun, IA. Walsh, ND. Toole, MT. Cavalier, ND. Hodgeman, KS. And Potter, SD. There are now 3,561,292 active cases in the United States. The current Top 10 states by number of active cases: California, Florida, Arizona, Illinois jumps to number 4, Virginia, Texas, Missouri surpasses Georgia, then Maryland and Alabama. The five states with the most daily new cases per capita over 7 days are North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Wisconsin, and Iowa.The retransmission rate is currently highest in Maine with a very high rate of 1.52, then Iowa, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Illinois. There are two states with a retransmission rate below 1 and they are Mississippi and North Carolina. There’ve been a total 237,566 deaths in the US reported as COVID-related, with a current national fatality rate of 2.43%.The states with the most new deaths reported as COVID-related: Illinois 50. Texas and Indiana 39. Minnesota 31. Missouri 24. Florida and South Carolina 21. And New York, Louisiana, and Massachusetts all with 20. Globally, there are now over 13 million active cases at 13,675,944.There are 574,394 new cases around the world in the last 24 hours compared to a high of 605,573 on November 5. The five countries with the most new cases: the United States 102,726. India 46,661. France 38,619. Italy 32,616. And Poland 24,785.  There have now been 1,255,489 deaths worldwide.
