Coach McKinney began his coaching career in 2006 as an assistant for the Post 14 Bozeman, Montana American Legion Program. He spent 4 seasons in Bozeman, helping lead the Bucks to a State Championship in 2007 and a runner-up finish in 2009. From 2007-2010, McKinney was a student coach and director of baseball operations @ Division 1 New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. While at NMSU, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Individualized Studies. Beginning in the fall of 2010, he became a Graduate Assistant for the Yellowjackets @ Division 2 Montana State University-Billings for two seasons where he received his Master’s in Exercise Science and Sport Leadership. During his time in Billings, he also assisted the Billings Scarlets Post 4 Legion program, helping them capture a State Championship in 2011 and a runner-up finish at the Northwest Regional Tournament. The Scarlets would finish 2nd at the State Tournament in 2012. Upon graduation from MSUB, he served three seasons as an Assistant Coach at Miles Community College in Miles City, MT where he oversaw the development of the hitters, outfielders, and catchers. The 2014 Pioneer Offense lead the country in batting average and on base percentage. The Pioneers were crowned the 2013 and 2014 Mon-Dak Conference Champions and the 2013 Region 9 Champions. In the summer of 2013, he assisted the Post 22 Hardhats in Rapid City, South Dakota to a state championship. McKinney spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons as an assistant coach for the Division 2 San Francisco State University Gators. Coach Mac has coached for 13 seasons and currently resides in Reno, Nevada where he is an assistant coach at the Northern Nevada Baseball Factory. He is married to his wife, Lisa, who is an assistant softball coach for the University of Nevada Wolf Pack.
