More With Moreira: The Business Podcast

Business

Don’t try too hard to separate your identity from your own business. The truth is, though very difficult, adding a personal influence to your business is what will elevate you among your competition. People buy from you because they like you, your personal brand, your values, your objectives, etc. Maybe, it’s time we recognise that they aren’t as separate as we think they are.  In this episode of the More With Moreira Podcast, Ricky Conaghan, the Founder of Hatch, sits with Des to talk about the power and art of authenticity. Discover how you can build your brand, set up a business plan, find your market, device marketing strategies, and many more while being true to yourself, today.   KEY TAKEAWAYS  Prepare a business plan, especially in the financial aspects. Ricky has to learn this the hard way. He was naïve before to go all in and expect nothing but success. Though it all worked out, he would’ve done things differently if he knew what he knows now. If you believe you aren’t ready yet, then educate yourself. There are many resources made available for free out there.  For Des, his big regret was not having an exit strategy when he started a project with someone. Having an exit strategy is a great benefit, despite everyone seeing it as an unpleasant thing that could tarnish a business relationship.  Accept growth; accept change. If you feel that a certain policy, culture, decision, etc is not working, then it’s time to re-evaluate. There are also times in which it’s you (or any individual) that doesn’t fit anymore. It’s either you’ve outgrown it or the external factors are just too big to effect change. Let yourself evolve.  Be authentic in how you offer your service and how you package yourself. Most buy not because of the product itself, they buy because of how you sell it. They believe in your brand, your values and your objectives.  Find out where your market is. Though people say to exhaust the benefits your get from free social media platforms online (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc.), it would still be a huge problem for you if your market—for example, most of your demographics are old, non-techy people—isn’t using them. You might consider the more traditional approach, which is meeting people face to face.  BEST MOMENTS  “It’s making sure you surround yourself with the right people so you can do the shortcuts and learn from their mistakes.”  “I’m trying to work on the business, not in the business.”  “Not everyone is a born leader.”  ABOUT THE GUEST  Ricky Conaghan is the owner and founder of Hatch, a creative agency that helps businesses find their voice so they can grow their business and bring more innovative products and service to their clients.  Ricky’s LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/rickyconaghan  ABOUT THE HOST  I don’t know how this works, but you’re here now listening (hopefully) about my exciting life, so I’m going to try and make this worth your while. I never got inspired at school, I was too busy trying to impress my peers, chasing girls, and being a fool to get inspired. I rejected school. But let me tell you something for free! That was a mistake! I spent the next 15 years in jobs I hated, with no direction, lacked purpose, and motivation for life. Yes, big words, but that was me in a box. A slave to the system! Fast forward to today, and well, I’m not sitting in my ivory tower or anything, but I love life and my career. Yeah, it’s both painful and exciting rolled and wrapped up into one giant subway, and who doesn’t love subway rite? The point is, you only get one life, don’t waste it pursuing things you care nothing for, invest in YOURSELF and grow as a person, be the best YOU by putting YOU first!   - Desmond Moreira, your host  CONTACT METHOD  Website: http://desmondmoreira.co.uk  YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo6eVOt1YEQD0dxNkRXevVg/featured  Twitter: https://twitter.com/Desmondmoreira  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/desmondmoreira
