Many people with diabetes have faced serious challenges during the pandemic. In fact, a recent survey found that three out of four Americans put off going to the doctor or delayed medical services due to the pandemic. This can be deadly for people with diabetes, and it comes at a time when the American Diabetes Association reports that more than 25% of Americans age 65 and older have diabetes, making the disease the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S. Thomas Grace, MD., shares his personal story about living with Type 1 diabetes and new life-saving technology that is available for help patients properly monitoring glucose levels. You’ll learn why Dr. Grace, the Director of the Blanchard Valley Diabetes Center, is teaming up with Dexcom to raise awareness of the benefits of a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system that is proven to have significant benefits on a user's health. The sad fact is that many of your listeners are not aware of these monitoring devices, which use a small, wearable sensor and transmitter to measure and send real-time glucose values wirelessly to a smart device or receiver, that can now be paid for through Medicare.
