Welcome Easter 4 ~ May 3, 2020 Easter Proclamation Alleluia! Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen, indeed! Alleluia! Hymn: Lord God, We Praise You (ELW 558, Vs. 1-3) 1. Lord God, we praise you, now the night is over, active and watchful, standing her before you; singing we offer prayer and meditation; thus we adore you. 2. Monarch of all things, fit us for your mansion; banish our weakness, heath and wholeness sending; bring us to heaven where your saints united joy without ending. 3. All holy Father, Son, and equal Spirit, Trinity blessed, send us your salvation; yours is the glory, gleaming and resounding though all creation. Prayer of the Day Let us pray: God of abundance, how often we are like the disciples; you call to us and we do not know it is you. Help us to see you and to hear your voice in our day to day lives, for you are always with us and desire us to have life abundantly. In Jesus’ name. Amen Gospel John 21: 1-14 The Holy Gospel according to John the 21st chapter: After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias; and he showed himself in this way. Gathered there together were Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples. Simon Peter said to them, ‘I am going fishing.’ They said to him, ‘We will go with you.’ They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Just after daybreak, Jesus stood on the beach; but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, ‘Children, you have no fish, have you?’ They answered him, ‘No.’ He said to them, ‘Cast the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some.’ So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in because there were so many fish. That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, ‘It is the Lord!’ When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on some clothes, for he was naked, and jumped into the lake. But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, only about a hundred yards off. When they had gone ashore, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, ‘Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.’ So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three of them; and though there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, ‘Come and have breakfast.’ Now none of the disciples dared to ask him, ‘Who are you?’ because they knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples after he was raised from the dead. Word of God. Word of Life. Alleluia! Christ is risen! Christ is risen, indeed! Alleluia! Children’s Message: Easter…Where Do You See Jesus? Message Alleluia! Christ is risen! Christ is risen, indeed! Alleluia! Hymn: Christ is Alive! Let Christians Sing (ELW 389, Vs. 1-3 and 5) 1. Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. The cross stands empty to the sky. Let streets and homes with praises ring. Love, drowned in death shall never die. 2. Christ is alive! No longer bound to distant years in Palestine, but saving healing, hear and now, and touching every place and time. 3. In ev’ry insult, rift, and war, where color, scorn, or wealth divide, Christ suffers still, yet loves the more, and lives, where even hope has died. 5. Christ is alive, and comes to bring good news to this and every age, till earth and sky and ocean ring with joy, with justice, love and praise. Prayers of Intercession Uplifted by the promised hope of healing and resurrection, we join the people of God in all times and places in praying for the church, the world, and all who are in need. Creating God, we praise you for farmers and fisher folk, heavy equipment operators, the crews of ships, truck drivers, food processors and packers, grocery store employees and all engaged in feeding ministries of any kind. Strengthen their essential hands as they feed the world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. God of abundance, no one should be in want. Bring your justice and equitable distribution of resources throughout the world, change hearts of greed and fear to generosity and compassion, so that all may have the opportunity to live abundantly and sustainably. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Comforting God, you carry us tenderly. We pray for the world in these unprecedented times, in the midst of dark valleys, anxiety, and overwhelming suffering and grief, comfort and give us your peace, especially all who we name aloud or in the silence of our hearts. (pause) Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Everlasting God, your beloved have heard your voice; you have called them by name and guided to eternal life. We thank you for their lives of faithful witness. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. With bold confidence in your love, almighty God, we place all for whom we pray into your eternal care; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Peace The Peace of the living Christ be with you always, And also with you! Lord's Prayer Jesus remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen Communion with our Community This is a new part of our worship together: Communion with our Community. In this time of compassionate physical distancing, we don’t get to see one another in person. With this in mind, I invite you who can, to now to take out your phones and send a quick text or email to one or more people you’ve been thinking about haven’t connected with recently. Share the peace, say “I love you,” express that they are in your prayers, or just say “Hi” It’s okay if your Communion with our Community time continues into, or even through the hymn… Hymn: I Know That My Redeemer Lives (ELW 619, vs. 1-4) 1. I know that my Redeemer lives! What comfort this sweet sentence gives! He lives, he lives, who once was dead, he lives, my ever living head! 2. He lives triumphant from the grave; he lives eternally to save; he lives exalted, throned above; he lives to rule his church in love. 3. He lives to grant me rich supply; he lives to guide me with his eye; he lives to comfort me when faint; he lives to hear my soul’s complaint. 4. He lives to silence all my fears; he lives to wipe away my tears; he lives to calm my troubled heart; he lives all blessings to impart. Blessing May the One who brought forth Jesus from the dead raise you to new life, fill you with hope, and turn your mourning into dancing. Almighty God, Father, ☩ Son, and Holy Spirit, bless you now and forever. Amen Dismissal Share the good news of Resurrection every day and live in God’s peace! Thanks be to God!
