If you’ve been avoiding the news because current events feels overwhelming — from Coronavirus stress to politics to economic news — you’re not alone. It’s been a particularly rough week. Yet I felt a shift Monday. An internal switch flipped as I woke up to headlines full of dire news about happenings in our world, and in the U.S.: Coronavirus cases and deaths increase here at home. The stock market tumbles. All of Italy goes on lockdown. And more. Any personal fears, hesitations, doubts, or uncertainties I had about what to do or how to do it in terms of my service in the world was gone. I knew that I had to speak up, reboot this podcast, and provide a space for you to find resources and support for navigating this challenging time. (Burying your head in the sand may feel like a smart strategy. But you may find that it backfires and leads to more to deal with.) There is an effective antidote to the stress you’re experiencing, which likely feels like it got kicked up several notches with the week’s happenings. In this episode, I talk more about that antidote and speak frankly about where we’re at collectively, turning toward the fear, and where you can find answers during this challenging time. Trigger warning: In this episode, I speak plainly and sometimes bluntly about current events and what they mean for us collectively and individually, as I see it. If your emotions feel brittle at the moment, or you’re concerned about your mental health, you may want to listen when you’re feeling stronger and better able to process information that might feel difficult to hear.
