Since they first played together in 1972, their creative adventures have known no limits, embracing gorgeous originals for Chick, standards, chamber music with string quartets, and brought in 6 Grammy awards. They got together at the beginning of a Japanese tour to talk about where it all started — how they both came up in the jazz scene of the 1960s in New York City, where Duke Ellington could cross paths with Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk.
