In this episode, Larry talks to creative strategist Robby Wells. While he never planned it, Robby Wells is Dallas-born creative (and strategist in some circles) who never quite expected to wear the many hats he wears in his day-to-day. “Being classified as a creative is somewhat relative. I find myself if some situations where I am the most creative guy around. Later that day, I am in another meeting and I may as well be in a suit. I am cool with that. It has taken me many, many years to realize I am at my best when I am supporting the most creative, progressive ideas in the room - no matter whose ideas they are.” After an early start on the business side of the internet, he found himself advising big boring brands on how to use the web for marketing. 10 years ago, and on behalf of one of those big boring brands, he found himself presenting ideas to Pharrell Williams. While nothing came of the relationship between Pharrell and the big brand, that meeting served as the beginning of an on-going collaboration between Robby and Pharrell that lasts til this day. Among his many roles, Robby is a longtime employee of I am OTHER, Pharrell’s creative collective that works across music, film, television, fashion, health & wellness and events. After wearing a number of hats at I am OTHER, Robby has settled into a marketing strategy role across Pharrell-owned businesses and serves as Executive Producer of Pharrell’s groundbreaking culture- and community festival Something in the Water in Virginia Beach. About 2 years ago, Robby launched Music.com and is working hard to re-ignite a rich culture of storytelling that celebrates the inspiration and motivation of musicians. And last but not least, Robby is Business Director of WØRKS - a design and culture-obsessed creative consultancy whose clients include NIKE, Kanye West, Peloton, Beyonce, Fear of God, KITH, John Elliott and more.
