On June 19, also known as Juneteenth, we celebrate Black culture and honor the history of generations past. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. It was on this date in 1865, that a Union general landed in Texas to deliver the news that the Civil War had ended, and that slavery had officially been abolished . On Episode 20 of the Danso Pitch, Charles and Ramy discuss the significance of this holiday that is picking up momentum towards becoming an official national holiday, in light of the current fight for racial justice. The guys also detail the history of Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and how the power of the Black dollar can be used to ignite similar economic prosperity in the present day.
