Tony TeravainenSTEP is a San Diego based 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to providing southern California junior military and recent veteran families financial grants in times of crisis AND working with them to achieve financial self-sufficiency. Southern California has a cost of living 30% higher and housing rates double the national averages. These families have some of the lowest income imaginable, in fact, most are Low Income per HUD standards. They are put through enough hardship where they should not have to deal with evictions, car repossession, utility termination, lack of food and the like. That is the CEO of Support, the enlisted project, also known as Step, is not only that he's been an inventor that has patents, but also he is a commissioner in the city and not to mention that he was in the military and also served on a nuclear submarine. As we know in the audience, we jump right into the story. And so, Tony, I think you're thinking about writing a book. And so I'm sure this story is going to be part of it. So please go ahead. Tony Teravainen: [00:01:06] Yeah, well, it's it's been a crazy ride. And the book is definitely not my idea. It's people that I talked to that did just their eyes kind of start rolling around their head when they've asked my story. And they're like, I just can't wait to see how this all plays out. And I think it comes from the craziness, comes from the different episodes and just how they're tied together through your theme of perseverance. And it started as a military kid. My dad is also a career air force. So I think we moved eight or nine times. I went to eight different schools. And you always show up, you know, a week into school. And with my last name, I'm always in the back of the room and nobody can say it. And they they always wanted to call me Anthony, and I hated it. And I'm super shy. And I just wanted. Did such shrink and disappear back there? [00:02:02] And a military being a military kid teaches you a lot of stuff. But how to plan your future is definitely not one of them. So I had an opportunity. My second high school, I went to my my football team members helped me. They said, where are you going to school? And I said, I am in school. No, you idiot.
