The Irishman is a love letter by Martin Scorsese to gangster movies of the 70s and 80s. It is also quite an unusual movie by today's standards, clocking in at a lengthy 3:30 hours and with a huge budget financed by Netflix. It was quite a gamble for both the director and Netflix, but its success has cemented Netflix's place as a major cinematic movie studio.
