The popular understanding is that it is large numbers of people repenting, with extraordinary healings, miracles, and ecstatic experiences of God. In the book of Acts there are two summaries of the early Christian community. Each of these summaries highlight a peculiar revival that was a distinct result of the Pentecostal experience. The Spirit set them free to be generous. Generosity is a clear mark of a Pentecostal experience. The coming of the Holy Spirit breaks the chains of selfishness, the false security of putting our trust in our possessions and land. The Holy Spirit invades the very depths of greed and brings people into the promised land of generosity. At this point in history, here in America our greatest addiction is still unacknowledged. It is our addiction to money. Money is not evil, but the love of money is. In America we are proud that we are the wealthiest nation. We glorify and exalt those with money. We make them demigods whom we adore. Money determines how we value people.In this climate what does it mean to be a Holy Spirit filled community? Let us seek to be invaded by the Spirit!
