I know last week was Transfiguration Sunday.I know I am a week late according to our calendar of Sundays. Sorry about that. But, I do want us to see how the Transfiguration prepared Christ for what He had to do.Listen to the text of the Transfiguration…Luke 9:28-36.Jesus was discussing His exodus from this world.Which is what the Passion leads up to.So Jesus was there, with Elijah and Moses, discussing what would take place,In the upcoming days.So we know, that Jesus had a work to do.He had the work of salvation to do.And in that work of salvation, were some hard things. And Christ had to be prepared…ministered to…spoken over…equipped.Jesus invited some Disciples to go up with Him, and they fell asleep.I mean, think about what they had already witnessed. You would think that when Jesus invites just a few of them somewhere, they would pay attention. But, nope. And let’s be honest…neither would we.We would most likely be like - ‘Jesus going up to pray again’…And not think anything of it really…just like Peter, John and James. But what was happening was Jesus was being prepared for His upcoming suffering, death, and resurrection! You see, there is a lesson here for us.Jesus was about to enter into the salvation work of God,And knew He needed to be equipped. Not in oratory skills, or administration, or creativity, etc.But He needed to be equipped spiritually;Strengthened spiritually;Guided by the Father. You see, when God calls us to something, He will equip us.We may not get Elijah and Moses to meet us on the hilltop,But God will equip us.And if we move into that which God has called us without God’s equipping,Then we are working under our own resources…And that is never enough.I mean, Jesus gave us this example for a reason. Now - Jesus was transfigured…The Greek for transfiguration is metamorphoo,And means - to change after being with; changing form in keeping with inner reality.Jesus was changed in His appearance and readiness,While staying true to who He is.I love this.We think when God prepares us, or changes us,We have to get the stereotypical western Christian look, and speech patterns,And personality, and ‘fill in the blank’.When, of we look at what happened to Jesus during His equipping moment,He remained Jesus, but His preparedness for the task was in place. This is yet another example set forth for us by Christ. When you feel, or hear God speak to you to do something,Seek God for the equipping that only God can provide. What will change when God equips us is we will be more like Christ. And that brilliance of the Transfiguration will be how your spirit looks. Listen to it again…When I submitted to God and God’s call on my life,God began equipping me at an accelerated rate. And part of that was the healing of hurts, and stripping away of fears,And breaking of chains all while leaving me who I am.Not who I was…but who I am.Right - because Christ changed me from a person that knew death,To someone who is alive and learning to live as the person God created me to be.
