In this episode of the podcast the doctors interview Cindy Kennedy, MS, FNP-BC. Cindy is a nurse practitioner who practices functional medicine and has a special interest in Lyme Disease. While there are many things that can trigger hypothyroidism, Lyme disease is being discussed more as a possible trigger for some with hypothyroidism.  In this episode the following topics are covered: Brief history of Lyme disease? Is Lyme disease at epidemic proportions? Why Lyme disease can be so difficult to treat if not caught early on? What is the association between Lyme and thyroid issues How to address Lyme and hypothyroidism Cindy loves working with people who need compassion and help dealing with chronic health issues that have gone unresolved with general medical care.  The belief that everyone deserves optimal wellness, is the driving factor behind her starting to practice functional medicine.  Her own struggles with undiagnosed Lyme disease was the very beginning of the journey into the functional medical space. While working in health care for more than 20 yrs. as a Nurse Practitioner, she began having unexplainable health issues with multiple symptoms.  This is when she became the patient as she started her journey with Lyme disease. Her basic allopathic training was not enough to get to the root of why her body was unable to heal from Lyme disease. Working on diet, stress reduction, detoxification, sleep strategies and light exercise she realized that just antibiotics and herbs were not going to help her heal. It was the whole-body approach that would make the difference. Because true healing after a chronic illness does not happen overnight, Cindy learned to have patience and belief in the process. It became time for her to help others and in 2017, she began using podcasting as a way to help people learn more about Lyme disease. Her show, Living With Lyme. Has been well received and has become a wonderful resource for many.
