A short essay written in May 2016. It opines that the younger generations have never experienced real, full scale, war and, therefore, can only conjure up some abstract idea of it. The argument is made in historical and philosophical terms. Cautions against both martial romanticism and the negative impact on society of failing to be in a natural tension with its neighbors.
